The first test between India and Sri Lanka ended in a draw but India captain Virat Kohli would be pretty happy with the result.
On Day 1, Kohli was dismissed for a duck in overcast conditions on a green pitch and India, despite Cheteshwar Pujara‘s gritty fifty and some lower-order resistance, crashed to 174 all out. Sri Lanka then piled up 294 before the hosts suffered a further setback, losing key wickets on the fifth day.
Kohli led his team from the front in the second innings that allowed India to take a commanding 230-run lead as Sri Lanka were set 231 to win at the Eden Gardens.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami picked quick wickets as the visitors lost seven wickets after dominating the first half of the match.
But, the match finally ended in a draw as the umpires told both the teams that light was no longer good to play.
However, South Africa women’s cricket team’s captain Dane van Niekerk seemed too impressed with Kohli’s captaincy and showered praise for the Indian skipper on Twitter.
“Still think Virat Kohli is one amazing captain. So much criticism regarding the match. As a captain you never think about yourself. Always what’s best for the team. #anotherlivinglegend”, Dane van Niekerk wrote in her post.
