The gripping fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between England and India at Old Trafford, Manchester culminated in a dramatic draw on Sunday, July 27, 2025. The result has led to an intriguing shake-up—or rather, consolidation—at the top of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table, with Australia, Sri Lanka and England maintaining their top three spots and India holding onto fourth, as the competition edges towards its halfway mark.

Recap of ENG vs IND 4th Test : A battle for survival for Team India

After a record-breaking 311-run first-innings deficit, India faced the daunting prospect of an innings defeat. Their second innings began disastrously, collapsing to 0/2 as Chris Woakes struck twice in the very first over. However, a monumental fightback was led by captain Shubman Gill (103), who notched his fourth ton of the series, putting his name alongside some of the game’s all-time elite. KL Rahul (90) combined for a 174-run partnership with Gill to steady the Indian ship, occupying the crease for an exhausting five sessions.

The rearguard was taken up by Washington Sundar (101 not out), promoted up the batting order and Ravindra Jadeja (107 not out), who added an unbroken 203-run stand. Their resilience forced England to settle for just their second draw in the ‘Bazball’ era.

India were bowled out for 358 in their first innings, while England replied with a massive 669, led by centuries from Stokes (141) and Root (150). In their second innings, India reached 425/4, taking a 114-run lead, thanks to a heroic effort from Rahul, Gill, Jadeja and Sundar.

Updated WTC 2025-27 Points Table

The draw saw both teams sharing four WTC points each—as per the present system (12 points for a win, 4 for a draw, 6 for a tie). Crucially, a two-point penalty for England (slow over-rate in the Lord’s Test) kept them within reach of the chasing pack.
