England’s leading wicket-taker and one of Test cricket’s greatest bowlers, James Anderson, has made a shocking yet understandable revelation about his wife, Daniella Lloyd. Anderson, who retired from international cricket in 2024 has been one of the renowned figures in the international cricket fraternity.

James Anderson reveals his wife is still hurt by his forced retirement

The 42-year-old Anderson revealed that stepping away from cricket wasn’t his decision initially, as he still felt fit and believed he was bowling as well as ever, with the Ashes firmly in his sights. However, England head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes decided to move in a new direction, prompting his retirement. While Anderson understood the need to balance youth with experience, he admitted his wife Daniella was left deeply upset by how it unfolded. A long-time pillar of support throughout his career, she reportedly remains hurt by the decision.

“I’ll be honest, retirement was not in my head. I was still bowling as well as I ever had, and my body was in good shape. I was looking forward to the Ashes. All sport needs young people coming onto the scene, but you have to balance that with age and experience. It’s difficult. I’d been told that as long as I was good enough to warrant a place in the team, and fit enough, they’d ( McCullum and Stokes) keep picking me… but then they changed their mind. I did see their point. I wasn’t angry, though my wife was; probably still is. But then she’s always been my biggest supporter, my biggest help throughout my career,” stated to the The Times.
