This time, however, he only managed a faint edge to wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, who completed the catch to give India their first wicket of the day. The breakthrough moment not only ended Duckett’s threatening innings but also momentarily reduced England’s scoring tempo, providing some respite to the Indian bowlers.

But it was Akash Deep’s exuberant celebration that quickly trended on social media and became a talking point. After securing Duckett’s wicket, Deep strode purposefully up to the England opener, engaged in a brief animated exchange, and then put his arm around Duckett’s shoulder in what many interpreted as a pointed send-off. Former cricketers call Akash Deep’s send-off unnecessary

Former England captain Michael Atherton and former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik felt the send-off was “unnecessary” and expressed their disapproval.

“He’s given Duckett a bit of a send-off, which is probably unnecessary, but it’s the wicket that India desperately wanted. How many times did a bowler put his arm around after dismissing you, DK?,” said Atherton on air.

“I’m not sure if this is the right way to send off a batter, especially after you’ve got him out. Not many batsmen would behave the way Ben Duckett did, or rather did. It looked like they knew each other really well,” responded Karthik.
