The much-awaited Hundred 2025 got underway with a blockbuster clash between London Spirit and Oval Invincibles at the iconic Lord’s. As expected, the defending champions showcased their dominance from the very first ball, bundling out Spirit for a modest total and starting their campaign with an emphatic victory.
The contest, however, wasn’t just about high-quality cricket. It also offered fans one of the most entertaining moments of the tournament’s opening match. Star all-rounder Sam Curran, who was instrumental in his team’s success, not only excelled with the ball but also brought a touch of fun and flair to the field with his impromptu dance celebration.
Sam Curran exhibits his dance moves
After dismissing Ashton Turner with a well-disguised slower delivery that resulted in a catch at deep mid-wicket, Curran lit up the stadium with his celebratory dance. The left-arm all-rounder moved his hips, shook his hands, and grooved with his entire body in pure delight, leaving the crowd in laughter and his teammates cheering him on.
The commentators couldn’t hold back their amusement either, with replays of the moment quickly becoming a fan-favourite highlight of the match. Social media was soon flooded with clips of Curran’s celebration, as fans dubbed it one of the most joyful moments in The Hundred’s history.

An easy win for the Invincibles to begin the tournament on a high note
While Curran’s celebration stole the limelight, it was Oval Invincibles’ clinical performance that set the tone for the tournament. London Spirit, after opting to bat first, were left reeling as Curran’s disciplined spell of 3 for 18 and Rashid Khan’s magical 3 for 11 dismantled their batting lineup. Spirit were eventually bowled out for just 80 runs in 94 balls, unable to withstand the relentless pressure from Invincibles’ bowlers.
Chasing the modest target, Oval Invincibles displayed composure and authority. Despite losing a couple of early wickets, captain Sam Billings and Donovan Ferreira ensured there were no late dramas, steering their side home in just 69 balls with six wickets in hand. The win not only gave Invincibles a flying start but also reaffirmed why they are the favourites to defend their crown.
