One of the world’s premier spinners, Sophie Ecclestone, as she delivered an absolute gem to dismantle Danni Wyatt-Hodge’s stumps in the match 2 of 2025 edition of The Hundred Women’s. The Southern Brave had made a steady start after losing an early wicket, and Wyatt-Hodge looked in excellent touch during her quickfire 32 off 27 balls. Just when she seemed set to anchor and accelerate the innings, Ecclestone’s class shone through, turning the tide back in Manchester Originals‘ favour.

Sophie Ecclestone’s magic delivery castles Danni Wyatt-Hodge in The Hundred 2025

Tossed up invitingly around off stump, the ball drew Wyatt-Hodge forward as she attempted to smother the spin with a conventional defensive shot. However, the trajectory of the delivery was deceiving. The ball drifted in through the air, landed on a good length, and then gripped just enough to straighten past Wyatt-Hodge’s bat.

Playing for the original angle, she misjudged the slight deviation, leaving her outside edge exposed. The ball slid past her blade with surgical precision and crashed into the off stump. It was a dismissal straight out of a bowling masterclass, sublime control of flight and pace from Ecclestone, who showed her intelligence and experience by setting up the batter perfectly. Wyatt-Hodge, who had struck five crisp boundaries and kept the scoreboard ticking with busy running, had to walk back after an entertaining 33-minute stay at the crease. The dismissal not only broke a building partnership but also checked Brave’s momentum at a crucial stage of the innings, giving Manchester a much-needed breakthrough in the middle phase of the match.

Lauren Bell stars as Southern Brave outclass Manchester Originals in dominant 6-wicket win

In the second match of The Hundred Women’s Competition 2025, the Brave flexed their bowling strength and batting depth to secure a commanding six-wicket win over the Originals at Old Trafford. Electing to field first after winning the toss, Brave’s bowlers put on a clinical performance, led by Lauren Bell who claimed 3 crucial wickets for 28 runs in her 20-ball spell. Her sharp swing and clever variations rattled the Originals’ top order, reducing them to 3/10 early in the innings. Mady Villiers supported well with 2 wickets, while Tilly Corteen-Coleman and Georgia Adams chipped in with a wicket each to maintain pressure.

Despite a mini rescue act by Seren Smale, who top-scored with a gritty 40* off 34 balls, the Originals could only crawl to 95/8 in their allotted 100 balls. In reply, Brave chased the modest total with poise, anchored by a composed knock from Laura Wolvaardt who remained unbeaten on 42 off 37 deliveries. Wyatt-Hodge played a fluent 32-run hand before falling to a beauty from Ecclestone. Manchester’s bowlers did try to apply pressure, with Amelia Kerr, Ecclestone, Deandra Dottin and Gregory taking a wicket each, but the low target gave them little margin for error. The Brave wrapped up the chase in just 89 balls, earning four points and a significant early boost in the tournament standings.
