Edgbaston witnessed an unforgettable night as Liam Livingstone unleashed a brutal barrage against Rashid Khan, smashing 26 runs from five consecutive deliveries and propelling Birmingham Phoenix to a thrilling four-wicket victory over the defending champions, Oval Invincibles, in Match 10 of The Hundred 2025.
Liam Livingstone smacks Rashid Khan for back to back boundaries
Chasing 181 on a good surface, Birmingham Phoenix looked to be in trouble, still needing 61 off the last 25 balls. Nerves were jangling in the Phoenix camp, and the Oval Invincibles appeared favourites. But then came the moment that changed everything: Livingstone, Phoenix’s captain, faced Rashid Khan’s final set.
Rashid, Afghanistan’s T20 superstar and widely regarded as one of the world’s finest spinners, had already endured a punishing night. His figures read 33 runs from the first 15 deliveries, but the real carnage was reserved for Livingstone’s assault.
The sequence? Four, six, six, six, four — pure carnage. Livingstone danced down the track, hammered length balls over the ropes, and brutalized anything remotely loose. In those five balls, he not only broke Rashid’s spirit but also shattered competition records: it was the most expensive over Rashid had bowled in his career and the worst figures ever recorded in The Hundred’s history.
Rashid finished with 0 wickets for 59 runs from his full quota — the worst bowling analysis in the tournament and statistically the most expensive in his entire T20 career.

A comprehensive win for Birmingham Phoenix
Earlier, Oval Invincibles posted a competitive 180/8, powered by Donovan Ferreira’s explosive 63 from 29 balls and a cameo from Rashid himself, who hit two sixes from nine balls. Despite steady wickets falling, the Invincibles kept accelerating, capitalizing especially on wayward death bowling.
Phoenix’s chase started steadily until Livingstone entered at No. 4. Building his innings with discipline, he reached his half-century in 22 balls, mixing power and placement. His final blitz not only swung the momentum but made a daunting target suddenly look achievable.
After the Rashid over, Phoenix needed just a handful to win. There was a late twist as Saqib Mahmood claimed two wickets with successive deliveries, but Benny Howell finished matters clinically — a punch through cover sealed the win with two balls left to spare.
