Oval Invincibles Women finally broke their shackles in their third game of The Hundred Women’s 2025. Playing against Birmingham Phoenix at Edgbaston, they delivered a strong all-round performance to clinch the game by 22 runs and earn two important points in this high-intensity league.

Alice Capsey powers Oval Invincibles to a formidable total

After winning the toss, Oval’s skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill chose to bat first. The openers, Meg Lanning and Winfield-Hill, put on a solid 76-run partnership for the first wicket. The middle order then kept the momentum going, highlighted by a brilliant half-century from Alice Capsey, who scored 52 runs off 29 balls. Thanks to this collective batting effort, Oval Invincibles posted a competitive total of 174 runs in their 100 balls.

The home side struggled with the ball. Apart from Hannah Baker and Emma Arlott, who each took two wickets, none of their bowlers managed to control the run flow. Georgia Voll was the most expensive, conceding 20 runs in just five balls. Overall, it was a commanding all-round performance from Oval Invincibles that secured their win.

Birmingham Phoenix falter against disciplined bowling attack

Chasing a challenging target of 175, the home side never seemed to gain control of the chase. Skipper Ellyse Perry started well with a quickfire 29 but was dismissed before she could play a match-winning innings. Apart from her, openers Georgia Voll and Emma Lamb put up gritty 20-plus scores, but it wasn’t enough against the strong bowling lineup of Oval Invincibles.

The visitors impressed with their economical bowling, marked by excellent discipline and smart variations. Amanda-Jade Wellington was the pick of the bowlers, claiming two important wickets while conceding just 27 runs in her 20 deliveries. Alongside her, experienced campaigner Marizanne Kapp bowled a tight spell, creating immense pressure on the opposition batters. It was a well-executed bowling performance that allowed the visitors to comfortably defend their total.
