Mohit Sharma, the seasoned Indian pacer who has played 120 IPL matches, recently revealed his all-time Indian Premier League (IPL) XI in an interview with CricTracker. His dream team features an ensemble of some of the most iconic and talented players to have graced the IPL over the years. Notably, Rohit Sharma, the long-time Mumbai Indians (MI) captain and one of the most successful players in IPL history, does not find a place in Mohit’s selected XI.

Top-order batters

Opening the batting, Mohit Sharma chose a formidable pair in the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and the explosive Chris Gayle. Both players have been cornerstone figures in the IPL, with Tendulkar’s consistency and Gayle’s destructive power setting the tone for their respective teams. The middle order boasts match-winners like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Suresh Raina, all known for their match-defining skills and ability to anchor innings or accelerate scoring according to the game’s demands.

Wicket-keeper and all-rounder

For captain and wicketkeeper, Mohit opted for none other than MS Dhoni. Dhoni’s leadership prowess and calm demeanour under pressure earned him not only the captaincy of this all-time XI but also symbolic status as a key IPL figure under whom Mohit has played during his time with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The all-rounder slot went to Andre Russell, the West Indies star who recently retired from the shortest format, known for his explosive batting, sharp fielding and useful pace bowling.

Bowlers and the 12th man

Mohit’s bowling lineup is a perfect balance of pace and spin. He included Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan, whose variations and control have stymied batsmen worldwide. The pace attack features Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Zaheer Khan—three of the most lethal Indian fast bowlers in IPL history. Zaheer Khan’s inclusion adds experience and swing to the attack, while Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar bring the ability to bowl in all phases of the game. Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga, famed for his yorkers and wicket-taking ability, is named as the 12th man.

Mohit Sharma’s IPL journey and achievements

Mohit himself has had a commendable IPL career. He debuted for CSK in 2013 and made an immediate impact as a reliable powerplay bowler, claiming 20 wickets in his debut season. His purple cap-winning 2014 season with 23 wickets solidified his reputation as an effective bowler in the league. Over the years, Mohit has also represented Punjab Kings (PBKS), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT). His comeback in IPL 2023 was notable, finishing with 27 wickets, the second-highest in that season.

In international cricket, Mohit earned his debut cap in 2013 and was part of India’s white-ball squads for several years.
