The personal lives of celebrities often become public fodder, and the separation of Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and dancer-choreographer Dhanashree Verma has been no different. After nearly three years of marriage, the couple officially parted ways on March 20, 2025, following 18 months of separation.
Their divorce, finalized by the Mumbai family court, also involved a reported settlement in which Chahal paid INR 4.75 crore as alimony. Almost a month ago, Chahal made headlines after labeling the marriage ‘fake’ during a conversation with entrepreneur Raj Shamani. Now, Dhanashree has offered her response in a composed yet firm manner while speaking to Humans of Bombay.
Dhanashree Verma reacts to Yuzvendra Chahal’s fake marriage comment
Addressing the comments made by her ex-husband, Dhanashree underscored the importance of boundaries in private matters. Without directly naming Chahal, she clarified that silence should not be mistaken for weakness.
“There is a reason why we say ‘personal life.’ It has to be private. Just because I am not speaking doesn’t give anyone the power to take advantage of that. It is not correct. It should not happen with anybody,” Dhanashree stated in the interview.
She also used a telling phrase -“Taali ek haath se to bajti nahi” (you cannot clap with one hand), to suggest that every relationship has two sides to its story. While she has refrained from making counter-allegations, her remarks subtly indicated that her silence stems from dignity rather than helplessness.
Focus on career, not controversy
Despite the glare of public speculation around one of cricket’s high-profile breakups, Dhanashree emphasized that her focus remains firmly on her professional journey. She acknowledged having her side of the story but chose not to elaborate at present.
“If you want to achieve great things, you don’t have to address it again and again. I have my side of the story. Do I want to talk about it now? No. Do I wish to, maybe in the future? Yes,” Dhanashree concluded.
Since their marriage in December 2020, reports of turbulence surfaced by mid-2022, leading to an official separation. By February 2025, the couple filed a joint petition for divorce, requesting the Bombay High Court to waive the mandatory six-month cooling-off period. The High Court accepted, expediting the process through the family court.
While their separation continues to draw attention, Dhanashree’s calm and measured response reflects her intent to move on, seeking growth and closure rather than extending the public dispute. By prioritizing her career in dance, choreography, and digital content creation over controversy, she has signalled her determination to build her own independent identity in the entertainment world.
