Australia’s ODI journey has been filled with iconic batting displays, but what unfolded in Mackay on Sunday was something truly historic. For the first time ever, three Australian batters brought up centuries in the same One-Day International innings, marking a golden moment in their limited-overs legacy.

A record-breaking day in Mackay

The record was scripted in the third ODI against South Africa, where Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Cameron Green turned the match into a festival of runs. Their remarkable knocks not only entertained the Mackay crowd but also ensured Australia’s name entered a very exclusive list in ODI cricket.

Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh lay the perfect foundation

Opening the innings, Head and Marsh combined for a mammoth 250-run stand for the first wicket. Both batters displayed maturity and aggression in equal measure, taking their time early before cutting loose against the South African attack. Their centuries gave Australia the ideal platform to push for something extraordinary.

Cameron Green provides the fireworks

If the openers built the stage, Green brought the fireworks. Walking in at No. 3, the tall all-rounder unleashed a breathtaking counterattack, smashing his century in just 47 deliveries. His fearless strokeplay lifted the scoring rate sky-high and turned Australia’s innings into a spectacle. By the time Green raised his bat, Mackay had witnessed history.

This was only the fifth time in ODI history that three players from the same team notched up centuries in one innings. Unsurprisingly, South Africa dominates the list with three such performances, while England have done it once. Australia have now joined the party with their Mackay masterclass.
