Zimbabwe Cricket have unveiled a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka, set to begin on Wednesday (September 3) at Harare Sports Club. The remaining two fixtures will also be played at the same venue on Saturday and Sunday.
The series comes at a crucial juncture for Zimbabwe as they prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, which will also be staged in Harare later this month.
Sean Williams and Brendan Taylor return to bolster Zimbabwe squad
A major boost for the home side is the return of veteran all-rounder Sean Williams, who last featured in T20Is against Bangladesh in May 2024. Known for his ability to anchor the innings and contribute with his left-arm spin, Williams’ comeback strengthens both the batting order and bowling depth. His experience will be invaluable as Zimbabwe seek to build momentum heading into the qualifiers.
In another significant inclusion, former captain and star wicketkeeper-batter Brendan Taylor has been recalled to the T20I squad after a gap of 4 years. Taylor’s return adds depth to Zimbabwe’s middle order, while his leadership qualities and ability to handle high-pressure situations could prove decisive against a competitive Sri Lankan side.
Fast bowler Brad Evans and top-order batter Tadiwanashe Marumani have also earned places in the squad, underlining the selectors’ intent to blend youth with experience. However, there are some notable exclusions. Newman Nyamhuri, Wessly Madhevere, Vincent Masekesa and Tafadzwa Tsiga – all of whom featured in last month’s triangular series against New Zealand and South Africa – miss out this time around.
