The latest ICC player rankings have been released, showcasing significant movements and new milestones for cricketers across the globe. These shifts come on the back of recent international series, particularly Pakistan‘s successful T20I tri-series and England’s highly-anticipated 50-overs battle against South Africa. Players from both teams have been rewarded for their standout performances, leading to major shake-ups in both the T20I and ODI formats. These updated charts highlight not only individual brilliance but also the rising dominance of key players from various cricketing nations, as they vie for the top spots.

T20I ranking gain by Pakistan’s Sufiyan Muqeem

Pakistan’s bowlers were the big winners in the updated ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, benefiting from their triumphant run in the tri-series against Afghanistan and the UAE. The team’s dominant 75-run victory in the final was a testament to their strong bowling unit, with left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem leading the charge by rising seven places to 15th overall.

Pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi also made a significant jump, improving four spots to 22nd, while leggie Abrar Ahmed vaulted an impressive 39 places to equal 27th after a six-wicket haul across two appearances. The left-armer Mohammad Nawaz, who was named Player of the Series for his 10 wickets, was rewarded by climbing 13 rungs to move to 30th on the list for T20I bowlers, which is still headed by New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy. Flashy Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman also made waves on the batting list, climbing nine spots to 68th after scoring 155 runs.

Jofra Archer’s surge and ODI ranking shifts

Players from England and South Africa have also made considerable gains in the ODI rankings following their recent series, which was won 2-1 by the Proteas. The biggest winner was England fast bowler Jofra Archer, who put in a sensational performance to collect eight scalps for the series, including a wonderful spell of 4/18 in the series finale at Southampton.

Archer was duly rewarded by climbing 16 spots to a career-best third overall on the updated rankings for ODI bowlers. He now trails the number one ranked ODI bowler Keshav Maharaj by only 26 rating points. Archer’s rise to third place in the ODI charts is his career-best ranking, surpassing his previous high of No. 8 which he achieved back in September 2020. South African spinner Maharaj maintained his place at the top of the rankings after taking eight wickets of his own. Archer’s teammate Adil Rashid also made a significant jump, improving seven spots to eighth on the same list.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli remains in top 5 in ODI batting chart

The latest rankings not only reflect recent successes but also the long-term trends of player performance.  The England trio of Joe Root (up five places to 19th), Jos Buttler (up seven rungs to 35th) and Jacob Bethell (up 56 spots to 65th) all made ground in the batting charts. Notably, Root returned to the top 20 for the first time in three years. South Africa’s Matthew Breetzke jumped 44 positions to 64th after becoming the first player to register a half-century in each of his first five ODI innings. The overall list remains headed by Shubman Gill, followed by Rohit Sharma, Babar Azam and Virat Kohli. These updates demonstrate how short, impactful series can dramatically reshape the global cricketing landscape.
