Providence Stadium witnessed a gripping low-scoring contest in Match 26 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 as Antigua and Barbuda Falcons defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors by four wickets. Fast bowler Jayden Seales was the star of the show, producing a devastating spell to dismantle the Warriors’ batting order and secure the win for his side.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, the Falcons executed their plans to perfection. Seales struck early breakthroughs and returned with remarkable figures of 4/15 in just 3.1 overs. His pace and accuracy proved too much for the Warriors’ batters to handle.

He found able support from Usama Mir, who bowled with great control and picked up 3/17 in his four overs, while Imad Wasim (1/15) and Shakib Al Hasan (1/28) chipped in with crucial wickets.

Despite a brisk cameo from Shai Hope (26 off 14 balls, with three boundaries and a six) and a handy knock from Quentin Sampson (19 off 15), the Warriors collapsed for just 99 runs in 18.1 overs. Moeen Ali, Ben McDermott, and Dwaine Pretorius all got starts but failed to convert, as Falcons’ bowlers maintained relentless pressure throughout the innings.

Amir Jangoo holds nerve in nervy chase

Chasing a modest target of 100, the Falcons stumbled early against Guyana’s experienced bowling attack. Imran Tahir and Moeen Ali turned the game into a tense affair by striking at regular intervals.

Opener Amir Jangoo, however, held his ground with a composed 51 off 57 balls, anchoring the chase. Though wickets kept tumbling around him, his partnership with Wasim (16 off 24) steadied the innings after an initial wobble. Fabian Allen’s quickfire 15 from 14 balls, including a six, added crucial momentum in the closing stages.

Eventually, Jangoo’s resilience ensured that the Falcons crossed the finish line in 19.1 overs with four wickets in hand. Tahir (2/27) and Moeen (2/10) bowled with guile to keep the Warriors in the hunt, but the lack of runs on the board proved costly.

Warriors’ struggles continue

The defeat highlighted the Warriors’ ongoing batting issues in the tournament. Their middle order failed to withstand Falcons’ disciplined bowling attack, and none of the senior batters could provide the stability required in tough conditions. Hope’s aggressive intent stood out, but apart from him, no batter managed to seize control.

On the bowling front, Moeen’s miserly spell was a big positive, while Tahir once again showcased his class. However, defending such a small total against a batting unit with depth was always going to be difficult.

For his sensational four-wicket haul that dismantled the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ batting lineup, Seales was named Player of the Match. His ability to strike with the new ball and return at the death proved decisive in setting up the Falcons’ win.
