India breezed into the ICC U-19 World Cup quarter-finals after hammering minnows Papua New Guinea by 10 wickets in a low-scoring group B clash at Mount Maunganui on Tuesday.
Left-arm spinner Anukul Roy (5/14) claimed a maiden five-wicket haul and emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for India as he ran through the opposition after skipper Prithvi Shaw won the toss and elected to bowl first under overcast conditions.
Ovia Sam (15) and opener Simon Atai (13) were the top-scorers as Papua New Guinea got bowled out for a paltry 64 in 21.5 overs.
The boys in blue overhauled the target in just eight overs, riding on Shaw’s 39-ball 57 which was studded with 12 boundaries. It was Shaw’s second half-century of the tournament, while Roy picked his maiden five-wicket haul in youth ODIs.
