One of the greatest physicists in the history of science, Stephen Hawking, has died at the age of 76. The man who became a household name after publishing his book, A Brief History of Time, died at his home in Cambridge.
After being diagnosed with a rare form of motor neuron disease, at the age of 22, Prof. Hawking was given just a few years to live. The illness left him in a wheelchair and incapacitated to speak except through a voice synthesizer. However, he didn’t let it hold him back and went on to do some stupendous work in the field of science.
He is survived by his two children and former wife. While condolence messages started pouring in from all quarters today, members of cricket fraternity, Jasprit Bumrah, Sarah Taylor, Heather Knight among others took to Twitter to offer their condolences to the late theoretical physicist.

While Stephen Hawking's brief history of time is iconic, Jane Hawking's memoir Travelling to Infinity is also worth a read. Gives an insight into the man himself, and his family. #RIPStephenHawking

An incredible mind – let us never be satisfied with how we presume it to be. We may never know the full truth but thanks to S. Hawking we are better advanced. A truly sad loss today but let’s hope his good work/tenacity/good humour continues through all of us/those he inspired https://t.co/Gk1Odki4hX
