Ellyse Perry won bragging rights over her good friend and Australian teammate Alyssa Healy in the Women’s T20 challenge match in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Perry’s Supernovas beat Healy’s Trailblazers by three wickets when Pooja Vastrakar, needing one run off the last ball of the match, hit a single through mid-wicket.
After put in to bat first by the Supernovas skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, the Trailblazers made 6-129 off their 20 overs, with the help of decent scores by Suzie Bates (32) and Jemimah Rodrigues (25). Perry (2-20) and Megan Schutt (2-18) led the way with the ball for Supernovas.
In reply, Mithali Raj (22) and Danielle Wyatt (24) helped to set a solid base, and despite a spluttering finale to their run-chase, the Supernovas limped to victory with Perry finishing unbeaten on 13.
However, it was Perry’s brilliance in the field which changed the game into Supernovas favour. When the partnership between Rodrigues and Bates seemed to be going strong, Perry grabbed a stunner to send the young Indian batswoman back to the dugout.
