Jhulan Goswami, the veteran India pacer, has announced her retirement from T20 Internationals, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced in a media release on Thursday (August 23).
Jhulan played in 68 T20Is picking up 56 wickets which included a five-wicket haul against Australia in 2012. “Goswami thanked the BCCI and her teammates for all the love and support she garnered during her stint with the T20I team and wished them luck going forward,” the BCCI said in its release.
She made her T20I debut in August 2006 against England in Derby and has ended her career as the third most-capped Indian player in T20Is. Her last T20I appearance was against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup final on June 10 earlier this year, which India lost by three wickets.
Jhulan, who’s the leading wicket-taker in women’s ODIs and the first woman to bag 200 wickets in the 50-over format, has also played 10 Tests in which she has picked up 40 wickets at an average of 16.62 with three five-wicket hauls.
In 2007, Jhulan became the first ever Indian to win ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award. Three years later, she won the Arjuna Award, becoming the second woman cricketer to have won the award after Diana Edulji. In 2012, she won the Padma Shri Award.
In April this year, Jhulan was honoured with a postage stamp to celebrate her achievements in cricket.
