The fifth Test match between England and India began at the Kia Oval on Friday.
Joe Root won the toss and elected to bat first. India made two changes with Hanuma Vihari making his debut in place of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja coming in place of Ravichandran Ashwin.
Alastair Cook playing his last Test and Keaton Jennings put on a fifty run partnership with Indian bowling struggling a bit. However, soon Jadeja got Jennings caught at leg slip for 23. Moeen Ali (50) and Cook (71) added 73 runs for the second wicket before Jasprit Bumrah outfoxed Cook.
Bumrah then trapped Root infront of the wickets for a duck and Ishant Sharma had Jonny Bairstow caught behind by Rishabh Pant at the same score.
Ben Stokes and Ali tried to stabilize the innings, but Jadeja dismissed Stokes leg before wicket for 11 and then Ishant sent back Ali and Sam Curran (0) in the same over to push the hosts on back foot.
Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid avoided further damage and England ended the day at 198/7.
Twitterati were amazed by the performance of Indian bowlers and appreciated their efforts on Day 1 at the Oval.

‘Slow day for England as India’s toil gets rewarded’ – Cook very impressive today and great to see Moen Ali fight hard. This Indian attack is impressive – good swing, good pace and good accuracy! #ENDvIND

Today’s England performance another painful reminder for India as to how great an opportunity they have missed to win an overseas series. #ENDvIND

India have bowled very well, but England have lacked decisive intent with their footwork and stroke play. Up to middle order to dig them out of hole. #ENDvIND

Just love this Ishant Sharma 2.0 .. T20 cricket shut its door and that’s possibly unleashed a beast in him.. we often offer extra respect to batsmen purely committed to the longest format, should be the same in his case too!! Der aaye durust aaye .. #EngvInd
