India openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have made important gains in the latest ICC ODI Player Rankings after the Asia Cup 2018 in the United Arab Emirates, which their side lifted by winning the last-ball thriller against Bangladesh.
Rohit, who led the team in the absence of Virat Kohli, has shot up two places to a career-best second position to make it a 1-2 for India in the batting rankings. This is for the second time that Rohit is in second position, having first reached number two in July this year.
Rohit clubbed 317 runs while Shikhar topped the tournament with 342 runs to gain four slots and reach fifth position.
Apart from Rohit and Dhawan, spinner Kuldeep Yadav gained three places to reach his career-best third place after he finished as the joint-highest wicket taker in the Asia Cup. Kuldeep, with 10 wickets, shared the honours with Bangladesh quick Mustafizur Rahman and Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan.
Also, Rashid displaced former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan to become the top-ranked all-rounders in ODIs while he continued to be second to Jasprit Bumrah in the ODI rankings for bowlers.
