Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both hit centuries and combined in a stand of 246 to help India chase down a difficult target against West Indies for a convincing eight-wicket victory in the opening one day international of the 5 match series on Sunday.
Shimron Hetmyer struck his third ODI hundred in just his 13th match to help West Indies to 322-8 after India captain won the toss and put the visitors to bat.
Chasing 323, Kohli smashed 140 off 107 balls while Rohit remained unbeaten on 152 off 117 deliveries as India coasted to the victory with 47 balls to spare.
Kohli pounded the Windies bowlers with 21 fours and two sixes to complete his 36th ODI century while Rohit hit his 20th ODI hundred which came off 117 balls with 15 fours and eight sixes.
After Kohli’s dismissal, Ambati Rayudu (22) supported Rohit till the end, seeing India cross the victory line with eight wickets remaining. He too helped himself to a maximum.
Overall, there were 11 sixes hit during the Indian innings.
