Andre Russell ruled out of T20I series against India; replacement announced

West Indies star all-rounder Andre Russell has been ruled out of the T20I series against India beginning from Sunday (October 4) in Kolkata due to an injury.

Russell played the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2018 for Jamaica Tallawahs, and then went to the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) where he played one game for Nangarhar Leopards on October 9, a day after he had been picked in West Indies’ T20I squad. Three days later, on October 12, Russell said on Instagram that he was leaving the APL early because of what he indicated was a knee injury.

Meanwhile, Shai Hope, who was among the runs during the preceding ODI series, has been named in the squad for the shortest format.

Earlier off-spinner Ashley Nurse also had to be withdrawn from the squad due to a shoulder injury, which he picked after the fourth ODI against India in Mumbai.

Regular T20I openers, Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis, have already pulled out of the squad, citing personal reasons in both instances.

Revised West Indies squad:

Carlos Brathwaite (c), Fabian Allen, Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Keemo Paul, Kieron Pollard, Denesh Ramdin, Shai Hope, Sherfane Rutherford, Oshane Thomas, Khary Pierre, Obed McCoy, Rovman Powell, Nicholas Pooran
