MS Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the most successful captains Indian cricket has ever seen. The Ranchi lad is only the second cricketer after the legendary Kapil Dev to have lifted the ICC World Cup as a skipper and the only captain in the world to have won all three ICC trophies.
From humble beginnings to the pinnacle of Indian cricket, Dhoni has built a legacy that will take quite some to be matched by any other cricketer.
He has always been highly rated as a captain and a wicket-keeper batsman among the cricket experts and former greats but the 37-year-old has now received the ultimate compliment from the 1983 ICC World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev, who reckoned Dhoni as the greatest cricketer India has ever produced.
Kapil, who has always been a huge admirer of Dhoni, said he respects the veteran Indian wicket-keeper batsman for always putting his country before himself.
“MS Dhoni is the greatest player India has ever produced. He played 90 Tests and then said let’s give a chance to the youngsters. Dhoni did that and hats off to him for putting his country before himself,” Kapil told India Today.
Dhoni announced his retirement from Test cricket in 2014 before stepping down as the captain of the limited-overs sides in January 2017.
Dhoni led the Men in Blue in 200 ODI matches winning 110 of them while losing 74 games. He has the best winning percentage of 59.52 among all other Indian captains.
Despite enduring poor form this year, he remains the first choice wicketkeeper for Team India at the 2019 ICC World Cup in England.
