KL Rahul won hearts during the third day’s play of the fourth Test match between Australia and India at the SCG as he did not claim a catch that he did not grab safely.
On-field umpire Ian Gould was also impressed with Rahul’s honesty as he clapped for the fielder and was also heard praising Rahul, calling his act ‘outstanding’.
Marcus Harris could have easily had his feet up in the dressing room before lunch. However, a sensational piece of sportsmanship by Rahul kept the Aussie opener on the field.
An attempted lofted on-drive off Ravindra Jadeja when on 24, saw Harris spoon one in Rahul’s direction.
Rahul looked to have taken the catch, and Jadeja and his Indian teammates began to celebrate. But, Rahul quickly got to his knees and waved away the chance, suggesting to all that he hadn’t taken the catch.
Replays too confirmed that the ball had taken the grass before Rahul got his fingers underneath it.
Here’s the video:
A good effort from Rahul and he immediately says it bounced. Great stuff. Umpire Gould a big fan of it #CloseMatters#AUSvIND | @GilletteAU pic.twitter.com/7nA0H5Lsc7
