Ravi Shastri heaped immense praise on captain Virat Kohli after India sealed a historic Test series win in Australia on Monday (January 7).
The number one ranked side lifted the Border-Gavaskar trophy on Australia soil for the first time in 71 years after clinching the four-match Test series 2-1. The fourth Test was called off after rain washed out the fifth and final day of the match at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Shastri credited his captain for making the difference on this tour, and rated this victory as highly as India’s 1983 World Cup and 1985 World Championship triumphs.
“I will tell you how satisfying this is for me. World Cup 1983, World Championship 1985…this is as big or even bigger because this is in the truest format of the game, that is Test cricket,” he said in a post-match press conference.
‘I salute my captain’, said the head coach as he talked about Kohli’s passion. Shastri also feels that no other captain in international cricket has come close to what Kohli has achieved in his career.
“Past is history future is a mystery. We have won today, I like to live in the present and salute my captain (Virat Kohli) for being the captain of the team that beat Australia for the first time in Australia in a series,” Shastri added.
