MS Dhoni took the match ball with him after India won the third and final ODI against Australia at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday night.
The last time he did so, a video grab of him taking the match ball from the umpires, had gone viral with many predicting it as a sign of world’s best finisher’s imminent retirement from international cricket.
Dhoni had not forgotten the incident and made a joke about it after India clinched the historic ODI series on Australian soil. When he passed the ball to batting coach Sanjay Bangar, he said “ball lelo nahi to bolega retirement le rahe ho, time hai abhi bahut”.
Here’s the video:
See #Dhoni when gave ball to the coach and said " Ball lelo nahi to bolega retirement lerahe ho" 😂

Something similar had happened after the third ODI in England last year. After seeing Dhoni taking the match ball from the umpires, many speculated that the wicketkeeper-batsman was about to retire. Later, head coach Ravi Shastri revealed that Dhoni took the ball only to show it to bowling coach.
