At the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, India defeated the hosts New Zealand by a record margin of 90 runs in the 2nd ODI of the 5-match series and extended their lead to 2-0.
After electing to bat, India put on 324/4 in their stipulated 50 overs. The Blackcaps, in reply, were bundled out for 234 in the 41st over to face the second defeat in a row.
An interesting incident, however, took place during the match when India’s top-order batsman Ambati Rayudu got hit by a throw from NZ pacer Trent Boult in the 39th over of first innings.
On the very first ball of the over, captain Virat Kohli played a cut shot to deep point for an easy single. Boult, who was fielding in the deep delivered a rocket throw to the keeper’s end. Rayudu was strangled in between and had nowhere to move as the throw came in from the deep on the bounce.
Rayudu tried his best to move away from the ball but ended up copping the blow on his back. The blow was a painful one as Rayudu took a couple of minutes to get himself back to his zone.
Meanwhile, Kohli, who was at the non striker’s end saw the lighter side of things and can’t stop himself from giggling at his partner who comically braved a nasty blow.
