Chris Gayle made a roaring comeback into the Windies ODI team with a stunning knock of 135 runs in the five-match series opener against England. Though the home side couldn’t defend a mammoth total of 360 on a flat pitch, Gayle’s form is certainly a massive boost for them ahead of the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup.
Gayle smashed 12 sixes during his blistering knock and one of them measured a huge 121 metres which went out of the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
After struggling for the first few overs, the Universe Boss opened his arms in the middle overs to launch an assault on the English bowlers. Liam Plunkett especially got into Gayle’s radar in the 27th over of the match in which 15 runs were scored.
Gayle first smoked Plunkett for a huge six off the second ball of the over. But more brutality was coming the bowler’s way. Plunkett didn’t learn from his previous mistake and delivered the next ball on the fuller length up to the stumps. The Jamaican backed away and launched it over deep mid-wicket high into the sky as the crowd and England players haplessly watched it sail out of the stadium.
When measured, it turned out to be 121-metres long six from Gayle who later went on to score his 24th ODI century and celebrated it in his unique style.
