The 20-year-old England all-rounder Sam Curran, on Monday, became the youngest player to pick up a hat-trick in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL). Curran’s sensational bowling in the death overs inspired a 14-run win for Kings XI Punjab, as Delhi Capitals suffered an almighty batting collapse.
Chasing 167 to win, Delhi appeared to be in control thanks to a 62-run run stand for the fourth wicket between Rishabh Pant (39 off 26) and Colin Ingram (38 off 29 balls) that had reduced the equation to a more than manageable 30 needed from the final four overs.
But, Pant was cleaned up by Mohammed Shami, Chris Morris was run out next ball and then Curran (4/11) snared Colin Ingram and Harshal Patel in a double-strike in the 18th over.
Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals lost a staggering seven wickets for just eight runs in the closing overs – Curran returning to take two in two in the last – as they crumbled to a second defeat in four. Kings XI, meanwhile, claim the third win out of four games.
Earlier, David Miller top-scored for Kings XI Punjab with a 30 ball 43. Curran also managed to score a quick-fire 20 off 10 balls while opening the batting.

With victory in sight, Delhi’s batting quite senseless. But Punjab handled challenge of defending modest score with grit & gumption. Curran & Shami terrific. For my money tho @ashwinravi99’s been the pick: fine bowling, a direct run out and aggressive, imaginative captaincy

They were trying to win it in the 19th and that’s backfired real bad.

Rishab Pant should have finished it, probably they need a calm batsman somewhere in the middle because this was nowhere a win for KXIP, very accurate from Curran and Shami👌🏻#KXIPvDC
