IPL 2019: Dwayne Bravo suffers hamstring injury; MS Dhoni set to make changes in CSK line-up

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) winning spree in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end on Wednesday as they lost against the hosts Mumbai Indians (MI) by 37 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

The MS Dhoni-led outfit was completely outplayed across departments by an energetic Mumbai side, who were on top of their game. Post the defeat, CSK skipper MS Dhoni rued missed chances by his team players on the field and opened up about Dwayne Bravo’s hamstring injury.

“I think quite a few things went wrong for us. We started well, were right on the mark for the first 10-12 overs. Then, a few catches were dropped, a few misfields, the death overs bowling wasn’t great. We don’t have bowlers who hit the deck, it was slightly tough on them. We do have one-on-one plans, we needed to know where we could cut-off the boundaries, which batsmen to target, a boundary-less or two could have made a difference to a 10-12 run over or a 7-run over,” said Dhoni in the post-match presentation ceremony.

MSD is all set to make changes in the CSK line-up for the upcoming matches.

“We will have to see the wicket for the next game, we have to see the combination. Bravo has a hamstring injury, we don’t have a few players, we already have some injuries, David Willey isn’t there, he has his own problems, Lungi Ngidi isn’t with us as well, we will have to look at the pitch and then decide on the right combination,” Dhoni added.

A bad day for CSK on the field

After opting to bowl first, CSK did extremely well. They picked key wickets of the opposition to leave them reeling at 50/3 in the ninth over. But the duo of Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya repaired the innings for the home side. They added a 62 run-partnership for the fourth wicket and at the end of innings came the duo of Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard.

Bravo’s last over changed the game completely. After Shardul Thakur conceded 16 runs in the penultimate over, the Caribbean bowler went for 29 runs in the 20th over. CSK bowlers gave away 45 runs in the last two overs and this is where the game went out of their hands.

They were never in the chase then. Only Kedar Jadhav (58) batted well for the visitors but no one supported him out in the middle as they lost the game by a big margin.
