Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni is known as ‘Captain Cool’ for a reason. Whatever the situation may be, he doesn’t let his emotion get the better of him. But during the game against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), he was miffed with Deepak Chahar when the latter bowled two slower beamers in the penultimate over. The game was evenly poised at that point in time, with the KXIP needing 39 off last two overs.
Chahar was given the responsibility to bowl in death overs for the first time and he faltered in the first couple of deliveries itself. Without a ball being counted, eight runs were scored by the opposition and this is where Dhoni ran into Chahar. He was seen talking to the bowler in an animated fashion even as the umpires warned him for bowling the beamers. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old seamer came back strongly and gave only five more runs in the next deliveries which left 26 runs for Scott Kuggeleijn to defend as CSK won the match comfortably.
Being at the receiving end of Dhoni’s ire earlier, Chahar was then hugged by the captain with a smile after the match.
Dhoni encouraged Chahar
Recalling the moment while speaking to Times of India, Deepak Chahar said, “Dhoni bhai was very angry with me. It was a big mistake that I made. He said a lot of things. Honestly, at the back of my mind, I was thinking ‘what to bowl next?'” Also, he went on to inform that all his team-mates congratulated him after the match. Most importantly, Dhoni came up to him with a smile and said, ‘Well done’.
“After the match, every player of my team came and congratulated me. They said I bowled brilliantly at the death”. “Dhoni bhai also came up to me. He smiled and hugged me. He said ‘well done’. I know I bowled two bad deliveries, but I made an immediate comeback. He (Dhoni) also encouraged me and asked me to do well in the tournament. I was extremely happy that I contributed in my team’s victory,” Chahar added.
