Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered a big blow ahead of their previous IPL encounter against Kings XI Punjab as captain Rohit Sharma hobbled out of practice session with a leg spasm.
MI’s Director of Cricket Operations, Zaheer Khan, on Friday, confirmed that Rohit is now available for selection for their next match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) to be played at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference on eve of Saturday’s game, Zaheer said, “He is available for selection and he is very confident. That’s a very positive sign right now for us. Obviously, he is going to practice and get a better gauge of things. But we are pretty confident.”
The preparations were in full swing ahead of #MIvRR on #ESAday 🏏

Due to injury, Rohit missed out to break the record of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Suresh Raina (134), who leads the list of maximum consecutive matches for a particular franchise. It was the first game Rohit missed for Mumbai Indians after being bought by the franchise in 2011 from the now defunct Deccan Chargers. While ‘Hitman’ missed the first match due to injury, he was benched during a match against CSK on May 27, 2008.
One of the most consistent performers in the tournament’s history, Rohit is yet to discover his form in the 12th edition where he is yet to score a half-century. His highest score in the season so far (48) came against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
