Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the IPL 2019 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday.
Ashwin’s team have been found to have violated the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences and since this is their first such offense in the ongoing season, the off-spinner has been fined Rs 12 lakh.
Ashwin is not the first captain to have been penalised for slow over-rates this season. Before him, Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians), Ajinkya Rahane (Rajasthan Royals) and Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore) have also incurred same punishment for the over-rate violation.
The current IPL season has also faced its fair share of criticism as more than a few matches have extended to well beyond the stipulated time.
The contest at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi finished seven minutes before midnight with two balls to spare.
At the Kotla, the hosts finally broke the jinx of not being able to win at home after half-centuries from Shikhar Dhawan and captain Shreyas Iyer helped them chase down the target 163.
