England defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets in the third One-Day International in Bristol on Tuesday to take a 2-0 lead in the five match series, after a run-filled contest between the two sides.
Along with the hosts’ victory, the freakish dismissal of all-rounder Ben Stokes grabbed the attention of fans and experts.
While chasing the 359-run target set by the tourists, England was on verge of a record win when Stokes got run-out in a bizarre fashion.
Stokes was at the non-striker’s end in the 42nd over of England’s chase when Moeen Ali smashed a Shaheen Afridi delivery straight back down the pitch. The ball cannoned off Afridi’s boot and hit straight onto the stumps, leaving Stokes out of his ground and run-out.
The 27-year-old appeared to give young Afridi a thumbs up as the former departed, suggesting the latter had purposely stuck his foot out to affect the run-out.
