England captain Eoin Morgan injured his finger during a practice session at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Friday, and will miss the team’s first warm-up game against Australia on Saturday.
The home team skipper appeared in pain at the nets after hurting his left index finger.
He was sent to a hospital to have a precautionary X-ray.
“England captain Eoin Morgan has sustained a small flake fracture to his left index finger,” ECB said in a statement.
“Morgan picked up the injury during catching practice… he will not take part in the match (against Australia).. but is expected to make a full recovery and be available for England’s opening World Cup match against South Africa.”
It is not as yet clear if Morgan will feature in England’s second warm-up match, against Afghanistan on Monday, May 27.
Favourites England will begin their 2019 World Cup campaign against South Africa at The Oval on the opening day of the tournament i.e. May 30.
