ICC World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli gives a send-off to Soumya Sarkar after DRS confusion sees India losing their review

Riding on a record fourth century of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 from opener Rohit Sharma and a well-calculated half-century from KL Rahul, India posted 314 runs on the board against Bangladesh at Edgbaston.

Chasing 315 to win, Bangladesh made a decent start and after Tamim Iqbal’s wicket, Shakib Al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar settled things down.

In the 12th over of the Bangladesh chase, Virat Kohli reviewed an LBW decision against Sarkar after umpire Marais Erasmus adjudged the southpaw not out. The third umpire Aleem Dar had several looks and even used a split screen. But he found it difficult to come to the conclusion and told Erasmus to stay with his original decision. It literally looked plumb on hitting and only because the umpire didn’t have conclusive evidence, he turned down the appeal which led to India losing their review.

Kohli, the Indian captain, was baffled with the decision and was quick to have a discussion with the on-field umpire.

And about four overs later when Sarkar did lose his wicket off Hardik Pandya’s bowling, Kohli was quick to remind the Bangladesh opener that this time there’s no turning back.

The Indian skipper even pointed at the batsman signaling him that he is out.
