Jonny Bairstow smashed his second successive century as England thrashed New Zealand by 119 runs to storm into the semifinals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
At the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Wednesday, Bairstow’s gritty knock of 106 guided England to 305/8 in their 50 overs.
Coming out for the chase, two crucial run-outs of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor, cost the Black Caps as they got bungled out for just 186 in 45 overs.
Despite the defeat, New Zealand still has a chance of reaching the semifinals. However, Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the last-four dimmed further.
Brief Scores: England 305/8 in 50 overs (Jonny Bairstow 106, Jason Roy 60; James Neesham 2-41, Trent Boult 2-56) beat New Zealand 186 in 45 overs (Tom Latham 57, Ross Taylor 28; Mark Wood 3-34) by 119 runs.

So…the hosts are through. The formula of winning the toss and batting first is foolproof. But will it stand the test of the knockout pressure?? We shall find out…. for the time being. Favourites haven’t disappointed in the end. #CWC19 #EngvNZ

A disappointing day in the history of #cricket. New Zealand gave up so easily.

The last time England played the #CWC semi-final at home, was against India at Old Trafford in 1983 (lost by 6 wickets).
It seems in #CWC2019 the same two teams will be clashing in the semis.#CWC2019#EngvNZ #NZvEng— Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) July 3, 2019
England book their place in the semi-finals!
