CWC 2019 – WATCH: Quinton de Kock does a MS Dhoni, maneuvers throw to run-out Marcus Stoinis

On Saturday, South Africa defeated Australia by 10 runs to register its first World Cup victory over the five-time champions since 1992. The victory helped South Africa finish seventh in the 2019 World Cup standings with seven points from nine games, while Australia dropped to second after losing their second game in the tournament. They will now take on hosts England in the second semi-final, while table-toppers India to play New Zealand in the first.

Earlier, Quinton de Kock paid the best tribute possible to Indian wicket-keeper MS Dhoni on his 38th birthday. The South African wicket-keeper affected a brilliant run-out in pure Dhoni style.

It all happened on the third delivery of the 19th over. The Proteas leg-spinner Imran Tahir, who was playing his last match in South African colors, bowled his stock delivery on David Warner’s pads. Warner, without any trouble, played it towards Kagiso Rabada at short square-leg.

Stoinis, on the other end, responded to Warner’s anticipation for a quick single. But, Rabada made the ground real quick and threw the ball while diving in motion towards de Kock.

The moment of magic then came from De Kock’s side. The 26-year-old, deflected the ball accurately with a back-flick off his gloves without even looking at the stumps to hit the bull’s eye, similar to what Dhoni is popular within contemporary times.
