Rohit Sharma, Krunal Pandya shine as India seal the T20I series against West Indies

Rohit Sharma’s half-century and Krunal Pandya’s all-round display helped India seal the three-match T20I series against West Indies as they won the second game at Lauderhill by 22 runs in a rain-affected contest on Sunday.

Chasing 168 to win, the players were taken off the field due to bad weather conditions and the impending threat of lightning with the Windies scoring 98 for 4 in 15.3 overs. Dark clouds soon engulfed the stadium and rain shelved any chances of play after that with the hosts falling short of the DLS score of 120 runs.

Rovman Powell (54) and Nicholas Pooran’s (19) 74-run partnership had kept the Windies in the run chase after they lost both the openers Evin Lewis and Sunil Narine in the first three overs.

But Krunal struck twice with the wickets of Pooran and Powell to derail the Windies run chase. He finished with figures of 2 for 23 while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Washington Sundar got a wicket each for India.

Earlier, India posted 167 for 5 on the board with the help of superb knocks from Rohit and Krunal.

Rohit top-scored for India with 67 runs off 51 balls and in the process, set a new record for the most sixes in T20 internationals. He hit 3 sixes during his knock and surpassed Chris Gayle (105) as the batsmen with the most sixes in the format with 107.

Rohit’s 17th half-century also saw him surpass Virat Kohli in the tally of most fifties by a batsman in T20Is.

Brief scores: India 167 for 5 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma 67, Virat Kohli 28; Sheldon Cottrell 2-25, Oshane Thomas 2-27) beat West Indies 98/4 in 15.3 overs (Rovman Powell 54; Krunal Pandya 2-23) by 22 runs (D/L Method).
