Virat Kohli upstaged a rampant Chris Gayle as India beat West Indies by six wickets in the rain-affected third and final ODI at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Wednesday.
After clean-sweeping the T20I series 3-0, India took the ODI series 2-0 and maintained a clean slate.
Set a revised target of 255 based on the DLS scoring method after Gayle blazed 72 in pacing the home side to 240/7 in 35 overs, Kohli was at his most imperious in compiling an unbeaten 114 – his second consecutive ODI century – to take his side to 256 for four with 15 balls to spare.
His 43rd ODI hundred off 99 balls with 14 fours and overall impact on the series ensured him the double accolade of ‘Man of the Match’ and ‘Man of the Series’.
Brief scores: West Indies 240/7 in 35 overs (Chris Gayle 72; Khaleel Ahmed 3-68) lost to India 256/4 in 32.3 overs (Virat Kohli 114 not out, Shreyas Iyer 65) by six wickets by DLS method.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
No 43. Counter ticks over. It's the Kohli production line. It's smooth and it's efficient. And it's delightfully predictable.

Virat Kohli has now scored 26 hundreds while chasing in ODIs. If you consider only his hundreds in chases compared to overall hundreds for all other players, he'd still be in 5th place in ODI history.
Tendulkar: 49
Ponting: 30
Jayasuriya: 28
Amla/Rohit: 27

Very well played, Shreyas Iyer. He would have liked to finish the game today but has looked at ease in both outings and grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Feel happy for him #WIvIND
