Ben Stokes smacked Nathan Lyon for a remarkable six as England chased down 359 runs against Australia to win the third Ashes Test at Headingley.
On the penultimate ball of the 119th over, Lyon landed a full-length ball on the leg-side and sensing that Stokes quickly moved his leg before turning into a right-handed batsman.
However, Stokes did that in a lower sweeping stance – unlike Kevin Pietersen’s switch hit – and without even changing his grip. He hit that shot over deep sweeper cover for a six.
This shot from Stokes seemed like casting the spell as he looked monstrous after that. And what happened later has become a big part of the cricketing lore, making Stokes’ England’s best all-rounder since Ian Botham.
The Headingley Test saw Stokes playing the best innings of his career.
