In an exclusive chat with Cricbuzz, ex-India skipper Sourav Ganguly spoke about Cricket, Captaincy, Virat Kohli and a lot more.
Ganguly said that Cricket, as a game, is becoming better day by day. And the best part is that people from all over the nation are glued to the sport. They’re so passionate about it.
“That’s what keeps the game going and keeps these fantasy leagues alive,” the former left-hander and My11Circle Brand Ambassador told Cricbuzz.
One of the best captains India ever produced, Ganguly also opened up about the responsibility of leading a team and a captain’s game plan on the field.
“All decisions are on the field. You can have team meetings, you can have the planning, you can have thought processes, but it doesn’t work all the time when the actual action starts.”
“Every captain is different, and a captain needs to be ahead of the game,” he added.
Ganguly also expressed his view on Virat Kohli’s leadership skills. He said that Kohli’s captaincy has got better and will improve further with time.
He highlighted that these couple of years would be extremely crucial for Virat as a captain, especially the two T20 World Cups in 2020 and 2021.
“These two years will be very important for Virat Kohli, especially the T20 World Cup.”
“He himself would want to win a World Championship because of the magnitude of a player that he is… he’s an absolute champion.”
The former flamboyant opener praised Kohli, the batsman.
“I was up at 3.30 am in the morning to watch his batting. It’s exciting to watch him bat and win matches.”
However, Ganguly opined that captaincy is a different ball game altogether.
“Captaincy is a bit more than batting, more than scoring hundreds. It’s about building a team, making winning combinations.”
“The next one year will be a big challenge for him,” he signed off.
