Umesh Yadav came into bat and wreaked havoc on South Africa’s left-arm spinner George Linde on the second day of the third and final Test in Ranchi on Sunday.
Umesh targetted Linde from the very first ball as he smashed two back to back sixes in his 29th over. In the next over from the debutant, the batsman hit him for three more sixes, before his slog finally landed in the hands of the Proteas wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen.
In his 10-ball innings, Umesh struck massive five sixes to score 31 runs, which was his highest score in the longest format.
India captain Virat Kohli, who was in the dressing room gave a hilarious response every time Umesh smashed the ball out of the park. Even, the Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis was in disbelief when Umesh activated his ‘beast mode’.
The Umesh Yadav show helped India reach closer to the 500-run mark as skipper Kohli declared their first innings at 497/9. Earlier, Rohit Sharma slammed a double hundred, getting dismissed by Kagiso Rabada for 212.
Apart from India’s opener, the vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane also slammed 115 runs before he was dismissed by Linde.
