Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be looking forward to changing the fortunes and win the crown for the first time in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The everlasting underachievers of the IPL belong to an undesirable group of teams who are yet to lay their hands on the title.
Ahead of the next season, RCB are busy planning their best eleven. The Virat Kohli-led side is also looking for an opener who can provide them with flying starts.
After remaining unused in the previous season, there are high chances that left-handed batsman Devdutt Padikkal can be picked as one of the first players in the playing XI of Team Red.
The recent exploits of Padikkal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) is a testament to the kind of form he is in.
Padikkal was the leading run-scorer in the SMAT. He played 12 matches for Karnataka this season and amassed 580 runs with a sensational average of 64.44. The 19-year-old batsman also managed to score five fifties and one hundred.
Since Padikkal is the talk of the town, so the official Instagram handle of RCB asked followers whether the Karnataka batsman should get an opportunity to play as an opener or should RCB stick with Gujarat born Parthiv Patel.
“We’ve to chase a target of 240. Virat has come out at the non-striker’s end. Who will you pick to open the batting for us? #PlayBold
Fans were busy to choose their favorite, but in the meantime, Parthiv came up with a witty reply, “why do you want us to give away 239 runs?” wrote former Indian wicket-keeper.
Parthiv has played 139 matches in the cash-rich league and clubbed over 2800 runs, with 81 being his highest score. He has also smashed 13 fifties in the IPL.
