The auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 will take place on December 19 this year in Kolkata. As many as 971 players have applied to test their fortunes. A total of 713 Indian and 258 overseas players will contest for 73 vacant spots.
Ahead of the IPL 2020 auction, Mumbai Indians (MI) released twelve players from the previous squad, and are now aiming to get the fresh talent.
The defending champions have called up former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Milind Kumar for the trials. The right-hander has scored 2539 runs in 37 matches at an average of 49.8, including eight tons and ten half-centuries in his first-class career.
Milind had a phenomenal Ranji Trophy last year, and he ended the 2018-19 season as the leading run-scorer. He amassed 1331 runs at an outstanding average of 121. The 28-year-old also managed to hit six centuries and four fifties.
The reason why RCB released Milind ahead of the mega auction is still unknown. Apart from him, RCB also released Dale Steyn, Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetymer, Akshdeep Nath, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Colin de Grandhomme, Prayas Barman, Tim Southee, Kulwant Khejroliya, Himmat Singh and Heinrich Klaasen.
On the other hand, MI released Yuvraj Singh, Evin Lewis, Adam Milne, Jason Behrendorff, Barinder Sran, Ben Cutting, Alzarri Joseph, Beuran Hendricks, Rasikh Salam, and Pankaj Jaiswal.
