India opener KL Rahul, who played a devastating knock of 91 from 56 deliveries and propelled his team to put a humongous total of 240 in Mumbai, shared his thoughts on his impressive comeback in the shortest form of the game.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Rahul said that it is never easy for any player to be constantly being picked and dropped from the team. It looked like the Karnataka batsman was not happy with the way team management has treated him in recent times.
Rahul also added that it takes some time for a player to get settle down in international cricket and gets used to the pressure.
“I won’t say I won’t feel it (pressure) at all. Obviously, going in and out of the team is never easy on any player. You take a little bit of time to get used to the international pressure and oppositions and there is no opposition where you can just walk in and score runs, so it’s always difficult and this game is all about confidence and all about being in a good rhythm and being in good touch.”
“So again, having said that I can’t really sit outside and not prepare, all I can do is sit outside and prepare and try to create match feel for myself and I did play a lot of first-class cricket, so not a lot of changes,” Rahul added.
Rahul also mentioned that the win against Windies in the series decider will boost confidence and each game from now will be a learning lesson for the boys before the T20 World Cup in Australia.
“This will give a lot of confidence and now know what to do batting first. Each game will be important and a learning lesson for us before the World Cup. Like any other format, once you are set, you want to carry on and know what shots to play on. T20 has been kind and I try to do my best and give the results for the team,” Rahul added.
Earlier, in the match after being asked to bat first, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma scored 72 runs in the power play overs and the duo added 135 runs for the opening partnership. Rohit scored 71 runs and skipper Virat Kohli made 70 off just 29 balls.
