Sourav Ganguly has revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in talks with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia (CA) for staging a four-nation ODI series, hosted by rotation, every year.
Speaking to the media at a public event, Ganguly said that India would be going head-to-head against England, Australia, and one more top side in the coming year.
“Australia, England, India, and another top team will feature in the Super Series which begins in 2021, and the first edition of the tournament will be played in India,” Ganguly was quoted saying by Telegraph.
The former Team India skipper was in England to lead his team of BCCI officials for a meeting with the ECB.
Secretary Jay Shah and treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal also made the trip with Ganguly to hold talks.
On the other hand, the International Cricket Council (ICC) recently proposed one flagship tournament every year during the next eight-year FTP cycle (2023-2031), but the BCCI, CA and ECB opposed the move.
5-point argument
In an email to his ICC counterpart Manu Sawhney, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri gave five reasons as to why the Indian board won’t agree with ICC’s draft FTP proposal.
“At the outset, we would like to inform you that BCCI cannot agree or confirm to the post-2023 ICC events and the proposed additional ICC events at this stage,” Johri wrote.
