After the recently-concluded Boxing Day Test between Australia and New Zealand at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the Aussie pacer Peter Siddle announced his international retirement after serving the country for more than a decade.
The 35-year-old made his intentions clear to the team management after being released from the 15-member squad ahead of the upcoming third Test in Sydney.
Representing Australia in 67 Tests and managing a total of 221 wickets in the longest format of the game, Siddle has now turned his focus only to T20 cricket. He is currently representing Alex Carey-led table-toppers Adelaide Strikers in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL).
In the 17th match of BBL|09, Siddle made headlines with a brilliant run-out of Usman Khawaja (63) in the most cheeky manner possible. It was in the 14th over of the first innings where Khawaja went for a drive off Siddle and looked to steal a quick single. Due to miscommunication between skipper Callum Ferguson (73) and him, Khawaja was sent back, and the throw came at the bowler’s end to which a running Siddle (being away from the stumps) gathered the ball and reverse-flicked the bails to dismiss the batsman.

Cricket Australia also gave a reaction over the same post saying that if Peter Siddle is sure that he wants to retire from international cricket, “Are you sure you want to retire @petersiddle403?!?! #BBL09.”

Coming onto the match, Sydney Thunder defeated Adelaide Strikers by a small margin of 3 runs.
