Ranji Trophy 2019-20: Shubman Gill abuses umpire after being given out; Delhi players walk off the field

In dramatic scenes, during the Ranji Trophy 2019-20 Round four match between Punjab and Delhi at the IS Bindra Cricket Stadium in Mohali on Friday, Shubman Gill abused an on-field umpire after being given out and refused to walk back to the pavilion.

The decision was later on overturned, but this time Delhi bowlers refused to bowl, and the entire team walked off the ground in protest delaying the proceedings of the game. The match referee had to intervene before the contest restarted.

As per the reports in India Today, Delhi vice-captain Nitish Rana has claimed that Gill abused the umpire after being caught behind.

The umpire who overturned his decision was Paschim Pathak. The 43-year-old Pathak is standing in his Ranji Trophy match.

But, Gill fell soon after – caught behind – off Simarjeet Singh. He scored 23 runs off 41 balls.

Punjab is leading Elite A and B group with 17 points from three matches – winning two, while Delhi is languishing at the 11th spot in the group with seven points from three games with one win and one loss.
