The first T20I of the three-match T20I series between India and Sri Lanka was called off without a ball being bowled due to rain in Guwahati on Sunday night. It was also the first match of this year and the decade for both the teams.
The toss took place on time (6:30 pm IST), where Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bowl first, but soon after it, the rain came down pouring in at the Barsapara Stadium. After about one and a half-hour of rain, the damp patches on the pitch forced the match into a no-result contest.
However, the rain delay didn’t take away the energy from the Guwahati crowd as the fans started singing the national song of India – ‘Vande Mataram’ – in full synchronization.
The atmosphere around the stadium was electrifying as the capacity crowd took their mobile phones out and turned on the flashlights.
